Legendary comedian Sir Ken Dodd is expected to make a full recovery after being hospitalised with a chest infection last week.

It's believed that Sir Ken, who is 90 years old, was admitted to hospital in his hometown of Liverpool on Friday (January 12) after suffering complications from flu.

A spokesperson for the iconic entertainer told The Sun that he is expected to make a full recovery and is being monitored closely by staff in hospital.

"He's had a chest infection and is receiving treatment for that. He's expected to make a recovery," a statement read.

"He went in for a check on Friday because with everything that has been going around and Ken's age, it's better to be safe than sorry. They are just keeping a close watch on him and making sure all is well."

Get well soon, Doddy!

Sir Ken – a famed stand-up and singer-songwriter – was awarded a knighthood for his services to entertainment and charity as part of the New Year Honours List for 2017. He had previously been awarded an OBE in the 1982 New Year Honours List.

Ken got his first big break in the industry while in his 20s in 1954, and has had a long, successful and pretty varied career since then. Although famed for his comedy, Dodd has also performed in a number of dramatic roles on stage and had a number one single in 1965 with 'Tears'.
